FLAVOR: ### Riverside Slaughterhouse Large cities are often the site of large meat-processing facilities. Farmers come from all around to sell their livestock, and the meat is then shipped back to local butchers who may struggle to store a full cow. The work is necessary, but can be grueling and dangerous. This particular slaughterhouse, however, has the advantage on others of its kind because it is built by a river. The carcasses are hung to drain the blood and allow the muscle  normally a process that requires several strong individuals to lift and lower the carcass. In this slaughterhouse, however, the hooks have been cleverly attached to a system of chains and gears powered by a waterwheel, allowing much of the process to be automated. This makes the work possible with fewer laborers - but the machinery has been responsible for several gruesome injuries. #### Might be inhabited by: Rawheads ___ # Moving Machinery *2nd tier (constructed)* **Challenge** 6 (2,900 XP) **DC:** 16/14 **Area:** Immediate (less than 1 hour) This room is filled with heavy machinery; passing through without getting caught in the gears is risky at best. #### Crushing Gears Any creature or object caught in the gears takes 3d10 bludgeoning damage. #### Systemic An [[03-Mechanics/6-Ability Scores/Investigation|Investigation]] check reveals the shut-off, if one exists. ## Possible Solutions A single [[03-Mechanics/6-Ability Scores/Engineering|Engineering]] check jams the system, allowing the party to pass easily. Alternatively, the party can make a group [[03-Mechanics/6-Ability Scores/Acrobatics|Acrobatics]] check. **Critical Failure.** The system speeds up, dealing everyone 3d10 bludgeoning damage and crushing any Bulky items that the party is carrying. If an individual rolls a natural 1 on their [[03-Mechanics/6-Ability Scores/Acrobatics|Acrobatics]] check and the party fails or critically fails, the individual who rolled the natural 1 is also restrained and takes an additional 3d10 bludgeoning damage each round, freeing themselves or being freed with a successful [[03-Mechanics/6-Ability Scores/Athletics|Athletics]] check. **Failure.** Any adventurer that fails takes 3d10 bludgeoning damage, and the system continues to move. **Success.** The party passes through the machinery without incident, possibly because the system has stopped. **Critical Success.** The party figures out how the system works. They can use it against any pursuers or attackers within the area. #### Rawheads Rawheads are malevolent undead spirits. No one knows exactly where they came from, but it is theorized they originally hail from the Shadowlands. They manifest in the world by taking over the discarded bones and scraps of flesh of other creatures, often appearing in butcher shops, on battlefields, or at sites of mass murders. The rawhead knits these disparate parts together into a grotesque parody of a body. A rawhead has only one motivation: to kill, consume, and grow, incorporating each new victim into itself. ___ **Source:** Stranger Sites
