For those activities which don’t fit nicely into the one-per-region timeframe, a couple guidelines are in order:
- There are some activities which won’t be possible for some Journeys. For example, if the activity says it requires 1 week but the Journey is shorter, then characters don’t have enough time for that activity.
- It’s okay to choose multiple activities to fill the region’s time, but the character will need to roll for all outcomes at the beginning of the region, and track the time(s) when they transition from one activity to another.
For example, a region takes 2 weeks to cross. For this region, the ranger decides to Find Shortcuts to pick up the pace for the first 4 days, then Rob the local villages for the next week for a little pocket change. Finally, knowing that at the region’s far side civilization will fade into Haunted Lands, she decides to Hold Friendly Competitions for the final 3 days to bolster her weak saving throws and checks vs fear. She rolls for the outcome of all 3 activities at the beginning of the region, each with a different outcome which applies while the party remains in that region.
- At the Narrator’s discretion, a journey activity can extend into the next region, provided the overall Journey has enough time to complete the activity. The character would simply roll for the activity’s outcome at the start of the first region. Upon reaching the second region, the character subtracts the days remaining in the “spanning” activity from the days they can fill with other activities in the second region. Then they choose any new activities for the new region, and roll for the outcome of the new activities at the beginning of the region as normal. Obviously, they can’t choose an activity in the second region which takes the entire region.
