**Crafting Components:** An iron needle engraved with holy and/or profane symbols
These compasses come in four varieties: Chaotic, Evil, Good, and Lawful. While the compass is within a number of miles of a creature equal to that creature’s [[03-Mechanics/6-Ability Scores/Proficiency Bonus|Proficiency Bonus]], the compass’s needle points in the direction of the creature if the creature shares the compass’s alignment, or away from the creature if the creature has the opposite alignment as the compass. If the creature has no alignment or an alignment that is neither the same as nor the opposite of that of the compass, the compass does not respond to it. If the compass is under the influence of multiple creatures, it will always point toward the creature with the highest proficiency bonus. In the event of a tie, the compass points toward the closest of the creatures.
The compass may also point toward or away from locations, objects, or events that correspond to the compass’s alignment or its opposite respectively, such as the temples of beneficent deities for Good compasses, cursed artifacts for Evil compasses, or the fulfillment of a promise for Lawful compasses. The degree and extent to which such things attract or repel the needle of a moral compass is at the discretion of the Narrator.
