In cultures disinclined to rely on the divine magic of clerics and heralds to combat foes from beyond the veil, many choose to instead request the services of an Arcane Exterminator: a professional monster hunter and secular exorcist who relies a range of specialty gadgets to banish extraplanar threats. Of all the tools they rely on for their craft, none have become more iconic than the arcane lasso, capable of binding even creatures that slide easily through solid matter. Whether motivated by scientific curiosity, personal vendettas, or a simple love for profit, these paranormal professionals all share one thing in common: what for others would be a life-altering encounter with an entity that defies mortal comprehension is for them another day on the job.
#### Arcane Exterminator Spells (3rd level)
Starting at 3rd level, when you prepare your artificer spells you can prepare certain spells and create spell inventions for them in addition to your normal number of prepared spells. These spells count as artificer spells for you, even if they aren’t on the artificer spell list.

#### Arcane Lasso (3rd level)
There's a lot. See [[Arcane Lasso]].
#### Extraplanar Wrangler (5th level)
At 5th level, you have become practiced at manipulating your arcane lasso. While a target is grappled by your arcane lasso, you may use your bonus action to deal additional force damage to it, pull it closer to you, or impose a condition on it until the start of your next turn (unless it escapes the grapple first). The damage dealt, maximum distance moved, and kinds of conditions you may select increases as you gain artificer levels, described by the table below:
TABLE: EXTRAPLANAR WRANGLER PROGRESSION
| Level | Damage | Distance | Conditions |
| ----- | ------ | -------- | ----------------------------- |
| 5th | 1d8 | 10 feet | rattled |
| 11th | 2d8 | 15 feet | prone, or rattled |
| 17th | 3d8 | 20 feet | prone, rattled, or restrained |
#### Advanced Countermeasures (9th level)
At 9th level, you have developed techniques and technologies to counter even the most exotic foes. The following modifications are added to your list of modification options for your arcane lasso at the cost of 1 infusion each:
##### Cognition Disruptor
Creatures grappled by your arcane lasso have disadvantage on concentration checks.
#concentrationPenalty
##### Enhanced Debilitation
You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls with your arcane lasso. You may choose this modification up to three times, and its effects stack.
#attackBonus #damageBonus
##### Pulse Extender
You may grapple targets within the long range of your arcane lasso, and the grapple condition is ended when the distance between you and your target exceeds the long range, rather than the normal range, of your arcane lasso.
#enhancedGrapple
##### Psychic Invasion
While a creature is grappled by your arcane lasso, you can read its surface thoughts as per the *[detect thoughts](https://a5e.tabletopbytheik.nl/compendium/spells/detect_thoughts)* spell. The creature still makes an additional Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC if you use your action to peer deeper into its mind.
#bonusSpells
##### Rapid Recalibration
As a bonus action, you may replace this modification with a different modification. You may select this modification more than once.
#### Get the Job Done (15th level)
At 15th level, while a creature is grappled by your arcane lasso, it cannot gain advantage on saving throws it makes against spells or magical effects. In addition, you may use your reaction to impose disadvantage on a saving throw a creature makes against a spell or magical effect while grappled by your arcane lasso. You may choose to use this ability after the roll is made, but before the Narrator says whether it succeeds or fails.

# Magic Items
These new magic items are designed to support the Arcane Exterminator and give them theme-appropriate options to choose for their schematics. However, they are neither mandatory for the archetype nor exclusive to it. Arcane Exterminator players are free to entirely ignore these items if they choose, and Narrators are free to add these items to tables without Arcane Exterminators.
