The Uli have a rough, might-make-right society, but it is generally held that the town dwellers are more venal than even rural nomads. Nearly as many settled clans inhabit Ull as nomadic ones. Their horsemen are as fierce as any among the Ulakandar, but they are far less disciplined than those found in the more developed Baklunish nations. Their notorious infantry is based primarily in the southern towns and mountain settlements, as well as in Ulakand and largely consists of human light archers, orc light infantry and ogre and half-ogre heavy infantry armed with great maces and clubs. These military forces are seldom encountered beyond Ull’s borders, which is fortunate; in battle, they are given to acts as heinous as any monster’s. There is no formal adventuring guild or group within Ull. Both Ulakand and Kester are home to those seeking fame and fortune in the fighting pits. Most of these are human but more than one orc, ogre or hobgoblin has found success in the pits. All those who enter the fighting pits of Ull must be slaves but they earn their freedom with 12 successful matches and freed ex-gladiators tend to live lavish lifestyles once they’ve left the pits behind. Uli mercenaries both of Ulakandar, orcish and ogre descent, find employ as mercenaries as far away as the Horned Society and Bandit Kingdoms. Ull has no native spellcasting tradition, although the land does produce its fair share of warlocks.
