She led them north and west and founded her eponymous nation near the head of the Gulf of Ghayar in the old heartland of the Baklunish Empire, avoiding the undead horrors that seemed concentrated on the eastern shore of the gulf."* Unfortunately, this prosperous nation was destroyed in retaliation during the Overthrow of the Giants. Luckily, the peaceful cooperation the kobolds had always shown to their neighbors was paid back in full. Most refugee survivors emigrated to the other Baklunish nations (Zeif, Ekbir, or Tusmit), and the remaining kobolds were far too few to rebuild effectively. Enter the Corvids and Vulpus. Both peoples had experienced little success in securing homelands of their own, and saw the mutually beneficial situation laid before them. The remaining Baklunish kobolds either migrated or accepted the benign rule of their new foxlike and crowlike neighbors. The 3 peoples developed a rarely-seen collaboration, with the newcomers adopting the language and cultural identity of Risayans, in honor of the sacrifices of the kobolds. Sometimes called "the nation of misfits" by outsiders, the title is taken with pride by the strongly patriotic citizens of Risay. Since then, the puritanical kobold restrictions on vices were lifted, and the nomads of the grasslands on the southwestern coast of the Gulf of Ghayar more or less turned into the Sharif’s army. These descendants of the Brazen Horde, as they style themselves, number some 8,000 excellent light cavalry, which are mostly used to patrol the [[Narrow Desert]] and make sure the worst wandering threats found therein are guided northward towards [[Komal, Malikate of]]. In the following centuries, Risay became a strong trade partner with the rest of the Baklunish Basin. Unofficially, Risay is believed to sympathize with the delicate balancing act which must be constantly played by Tusmit. Though distant, they offer what aid (and council) they can.
