The vast stretches of prairie north of the Sulhaut Mountains and west of the Crystalmist and Ulsprue Ranges are known as the Dry Steppes. Rainfall there is scarce, and few rivers flow in the place. Once the area was well watered and fertile, forming the homelands of the Baklunish Padishahs and Sultans, but it was destroyed by the Invoked Devastation in the war with the Suloise. They are now the domain of assorted nomads and small settled communities. The majority of the nomads are Ulakandar of Baklunish descent with more Suhfeng influence the further one travels west. Another species known to inhabit the Dry Steppes in numbers are the centaurs. Obviously, these plains dwelling centaurs are not identical to the sylvan/faerie creatures found in the woodlands of the Flanaess. These centaurs roam the southern reaches of the Dry Steppes, between the Sulhauts and Rumikadath rivers, their territory extending westwards towards Zahind and eastwards towards the Crystalmists.
