This combination has a surprising amount of mechanical friction despite both classes being spellcasters that can use Intelligence as their spellcasting ability. Wizards using long-rest spell slots and warlocks using short-rest spell points is the primary source of difficulty, especially given that neither class by default offers up extra durability or armor class in terms of a larger hit die or armor/ shield proficiencies. You can definitely make it work, and only needing to worry about Intelligence certainly helps, but beware of falling too far behind in magical progression.
While the mechanics are a challenge, the lore is not. Wizards in media and fiction often make bargains for power, and warlocks (particularly Pact of the Tome ones) have an academic bent. It requires little imagination to picture a character with levels of both.
Focusing on warlock levels gives you a character that has the moment-tomoment flexibility of the warlock class, but can also have a broad and deep collection of low-level wizard spells to address specific situations. More focus on wizard levels gives you the typical wizard spell versatility and some higher level slots with a rapidlyrefilling reserve of “spammable” magic from the warlock. An even mix give you quite a lot of lowlevel magic, but very little above that, and is probably best reserved for specific builds with another useful component (such as a battlemage build).
