This is one of a number of possible “ultimate genius” combinations; the esper and wizard classes both run basically solely on Intelligence, so the only real challenges created by this pairing are the slowed paces of psionic power and spellcasting advancement. Because of that, it probably makes the most sense to emphasize one class or the other.
With regards to the lore and feel of this combination, you have one question to answer: if a character has one of these disciplines, why bother with the other? Archetype choices can help you get there, but it’s definitely a question worthy of a good answer.
Barring some paradigm-altering archetype, basically any combination of these two classes will play very similarly: you will rely on your psychic powers and spells to solve most problems. Which you rely on more is essentially a matter of personal taste, though regardless of the ration, there are a number of “mandatory” wizard spells you’ll probably want to pick up like *shield, grease, mirror image*, and *misty step*.
