Both of the component classes of this combination only focus on a single ability score: Intelligence for espers and Dexterity for rogues. However, espers definitely benefit from the armor class benefits of Dexterity, and rogues won’t turn down the additional skill specialties Intelligence brings, so this can be a pretty strong combination on those merits. Flavor-wise, this isn’t the most intuitive pairing, but there’s a lot you can do with it. Psionic powers tend to have an easier time being subtle and sneaky than magic does, and the mix of psychic power and covert skills feels fairly natural. More levels of esper gives you a powerful psychic who can act with a bit of extra subtlety when needed. More levels of rogue give you a standard covert specialist with a psionic “ace up their sleeve” and an even mix of the two gives you a sneaky, powerful user of both otherworldly powers and lethal stealth.
