The combination of adept and herald levels has very little mechanical synergy but a lot of flavor potential. Adepts focus on their Dexterity and Wisdom abilities while heralds want Strength and Charisma. This can be gotten around somewhat, but you’ll need at least a 13 in all 4 scores to make this combo work. Both are martial classes, so it can be made to work, but requires prioritizing. Flavor-wise, it works; both classes imply a lot of discipline and training, and it’s not hard to imagine how characters with this combination of classes would happen. From a build standpoint, it probably makes the most sense to pick one or the other from each of your physical and mental ability scores and prioritize those. More levels of adept will create fast-moving, superhuman warriors with just enough magical power to make them interestingly complex, whereas a stronger focus on herald will give you a traditional messenger of an ideal who can pull out some startling moments of athleticism when the situation calls for it. An even mix gives you a highly-mobile warrior who can heal and hit hard. This combination is definitely going to be challenging to play, despite the fun vibe. It is probably better for either advanced players who can wring every ounce out of their builds or those who rolled ability scores and were lucky to get four values of 13+.
