This combination works startlingly well, mechanically-speaking. It doesn’t necessarily seem like it should; fighters often go about their business encased in heavy armor, and adepts don’t want to do that. But the fighter class is versatile enough that it can be built around a lightly-armored warrior that relies on speed, and that’s exactly what the adept class wants to do. Flavor-wise, there’s not much conflict either; both of these classes are basically “pure” martial classes that want to engage targets with whatever weapons the player has decided they prefer. Adepts tend to be more mobile and fighters tend to be more resilient, but there’s little in either class to get in the other’s way, and mixing the two gives you the flavor of an absolutely masterful combatant that has honed both their body and their fighting skills to absolutely terrifying levels. More adept levels means more speed and mobility, as well as more opportunities to pick up some of the supernatural options the adept class has on offer. More fighter levels means more maneuvers, hit points and defensive measures. An even mix balances the two. [[Synergy Feats for Multiclassers#Adept w/ Fighter|Adept - Fighter chains and ideas]]
