Some summoners use their skills as a way to cheat at the powers that clerics and warlocks gain through bargains and service. Afterall, why should you risk selling your soul or dedicating your life to difficult service when you can instead call up the cosmic beings that provide such power,m or at least their servants, and force them to provide it to you instead? These heretics often must perform their arts in secret, as they are widely persecuted by both secret cults and major organized religions alike as a threat to their stranglehold on mediating divine and cosmic power. Others are bold iconoclasts that directly challenge such power structures, using their own abilities as proof.
